With the Birthday Paintings, the line between Henri B Defauw his private life and his life as an artist disappears. This is a series of paintings he gave as gifts to his friends for their birthdays. What these works have in common is that the central subject each time is the person for whom he made the work. Otherwise, there is no line to be drawn, they go in all directions and thus show what Henri was working on at the time. There are some on canvas, on cardboard and on wood, there are paintings and boxes, abstract works, puns and rebuses... He gifted these works as a friend, but also as an artist. He calculated the value of the work and noted it on the back. Emotionally, artistically and financially valuable birthday gifts.
